Control4 Driver Setup and Troubleshooting

Three Control4 drivers are written by Just Add Power

  1. Luxul switching driver - matrix control of Luxul switches
  2. Cisco switching driver - matrix control of Cisco switches
  3. RS232-IP server - endpoint control of Receivers and Transmitters

Setup Switching Driver

The Luxul and Cisco switching drivers have the same setup procedure.

  1. Load the driver into Composer
  2. In Connections - Network, enter the IP address assigned to the switch
  3. In System Design, paste the License Key. License Key is based on the MAC Address of the Control4 processor. Without a license key, the driver will run for 30 minutes. Request a License Key.
  4. In System Design, enter the username and password for the switch if it was changed from the default settings.
  5. In System Design, the Operational Mode will report the size of the system as InputxOutput ________ Licensed.
  6. In Connections - Control/AV, connect the HDMI inputs and outputs to the driver according to the Transmitter and Receiver numbering.
    • The first Transmitter in the system is Input 1 and the first Receiver in the system is Output 1
    • Reference the JADConfig Report file to identify Transmitter and Receiver numbering.
    • DO NOT use the switch port numbers to map bindings.
  7. To perform switching control without HDMI bindings, double-click on the driver listing. A grid will appear to perform switching.

Troubleshooting Switching Driver

  • If Operational Mode is reporting as Demo, please confirm that the MAC Address is the same as what was sent for the license key request. Also, confirm that the license key is properly entered with no leading or trailing space characters.
  • If Operational Mode is reporting as Connecting, please confirm that the IP address of the switch was entered properly.
  • The switching driver can be reset by deleting the last character of the Licence Key, clicking Set, re-entering the character, and clicking Set again. The driver will log into the switch and re-interrogate the configuration.
  • If switching is not working as expected:
    • Try to switch using the grid system: double-click on the driver to make the grid appear. When switching, switch all outputs to the same input.
    • Confirm that Connections have been made properly. Input 1 equates to the first Transmitter. Output 1 equates to the first Receiver. Use the JAConfig Report file to identify Transmitter and Receiver numbering.
    • Try using the Test option inside JADConfig. If Test is unable to get to the green/white grid system, then the switch configuration is incorrect and JADConfig needs to be re-run.

Setup RS232-IP Server

One RS232-IP Server driver should be loaded for each Just Add Power device performing endpoint control.

  1. Load the driver into Composer
  2. In System Design, paste the License Key. License Key is based on the MAC Address of the Control4 processor. Without a license key, the driver will run for 30 minutes. Request a License Key.
  3. In System Design, enter the IP Address of the Just Add Power Receiver or Transmitter being controlled by this driver.
  4. If performing serial control of an endpoint
    • In System Design, set the Baud Rate to match the endpoint device's baud rate
    • Set Soip Mode to Bidirectional (Guest Mode)
    • In Connections - Control/AV, connect the SERIAL output of the RS232-IP Server to the SERIAL input of the endpoint driver.
  5. In System Design, the Operational Mode will report as // Disconnected - Telnet whenever the driver is idle.

Troubleshooting RS232-IP Server

  • If Operational Mode is reporting as Unlicensed, please confirm that the MAC Address is the same as what was sent for the license key requestion. Also, confirm that the license key is properly entered with no leading or trailing space characters.
  • The RS232-IP server can be reset by deleting the last character of the Licence Key, clicking Set, re-entering the character, and clicking Set again. The driver will reconnect to the device.
