If the Right Switch for the system requires more than one switch, AMP VLAN supports up to 63 switches in a single system.
Those switches need additional considerations:
Model | Ports On | POE Devices per Switch | SFP+ Ports | Minimum Firmware |
---|---|---|---|---|
AMS-4424P | Rear | 24 | 2 | v4.0.6 |
XMS-7048P | Front | 48 | 2 | v4.0.6 |
SW-610-24P-R | Rear | 24 | 4 | v1.0.3 |
SW-610-48P-F | Front | 48 | 4 | v1.0.3 |
All Netgear GSM models have rear-facing ports. Switches marked with a "U" have much more POE than is needed for a Just Add Power system, but can be used if the "P" version is unavailable.

AMP VLAN supports multi-switch systems in trunk topology.
Please see Stacking vs Trunking for more information.
When multiple switches are used, the video bandwidth usage for Transmitters needs to be considered as the cables that connect switches have a maximum bandwidth capability that is much lower than a single switch.
To estimate Just Add Power Transmitter bandwidth usage:
Generation | Average Bandwidth* | Recommended TX per Gb |
---|---|---|
2GΩ/3G | 400 Mbps | 2.5 |
3G | 500 Mbps | 2 |
Max Color | 850 Mbps | 1 |
*Actual bandwidth will depend on source resolution, framerate, colorspace and content. The peak bandwidth output of a 3G Transmitter is 850 Mbps, most often during boot-up and source switching. The peak bandwidth output of a MaxColor Transmitter is 850 Mbps.
The number of SFP+ ports on each switch, combined with the number of switches in the system determine how many SFP+ links can be made between switches. AMP VLAN builds a system so that half of the SFP+ ports connect to one switch, and the other half connect to another switch. This lets switches link together in a chain topology.
Connecting multiple switches together requires a specialized cable, and cannot be carried over typical CatX wiring.
Most SFP+ cables are compatible, regardless of the manufacturer.
You can find SFP+ modules on Luxul's website, Cisco's website, Netgear's website, or you can use 3rd-party modules.
