How to Set 2G Mode for Omega & Ultra Series Devices

Overview

2G Mode expands backward compatibility within the Just Add Power HDMI over IP ecosystem.

All Omega Series and select Ultra Series devices can be placed into 2G Mode. When operating in 2G Mode, the device behaves like a native 2G Series unit and is fully compatible with 2G Series Encoders and Decoders.

Enabling 2G Mode disables advanced Omega/Ultra Series features, including 4K support, video rotation, video scaling, expanded audio formats, and other enhanced capabilities.

Compatible Firmware

The following firmware versions support interoperability between 2G Series devices and Omega/Ultra Series devices operating in 2G Mode:

  • A6.4.12
  • A6.5.0
  • A6.5.5
  • A6.5.9-LTS

Incompatible Ultra Series Models

The following Ultra Series models do not support 2G Mode:

  • UL-707POE
  • UL-707WP2
  • UL-747POE
  • UL-708POE
  • UL-767DSS
  • UL-767AES

Set 2G Mode

To place an Omega or supported Ultra Series device into 2G Mode, send the following command via Telnet or through the webUI command interface:

2gmode.sh

A reboot may be required for the mode change to take effect.

Remove 2G Mode

To return the device to its default Ultra Series operating mode, send the following command via Telnet or the webUI:

3gmode.sh

This restores all Omega/Ultra Series features, including 4K video and advanced processing capabilities.

justOS

justOS firmware releases (Bx.x.x) do not support 2G Mode.

If a device is updated to justOS while 2G Mode is enabled, the unit will automatically operate in its default Ultra Series mode. The 2G Mode setting is retained internally but has no effect while running justOS firmware.

If the firmware is later downgraded to a compatible A6.x.x release, the previously configured 2G Mode setting will automatically re-apply.
