Converting Pronto Hex into Global Cache Format

The Flux Capacitor IR Dongle (VBS-HDMI-IRD) is capable of accepting either raw Pronto Hex codes (sent as ASCII characters) or Global Cache formatted commands.

While Pronto Hex codes are freely available and generally easier to work with due to their non-proprietary nature, they often contain a larger number of characters than certain control systems are capable of sending over TCP/IP strings. (Crestron's built-in TCP Client, for example, has a string-character limitation of 256 characters [as of 4/20/2016])

When a character limitation such as this is encountered, the Pronto Hex codes must first be converted into the Global Cache format in order to overcome the limitation.

The first step is to obtain the Pronto Hex code desired to be converted. Google and Custom Installer forums (such as Remote Central) are excellent resources to obtain well-known Pronto codes for a variety of IR controlled devices.

Once the Pronto code is obtained, run the iConvert program (attached to this knowledge base article for convenience, or available for download from the Global Cache website)

1) Copy your Pronto Hex code into the 'Input' box
2) Select Hex Code as the 'Convert From' option
3) Select Global Cache as the 'To' option
4) Click [Convert]
5) Copy your converted Global Cache Command from the 'Output' box into your control system environment and/or project notes

Repeat the above steps for all IR codes needed for your project, taking care to document each code in your notes, as they may look similar.

Example Input:
0000 0067 0000 0015 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 01d9

Example Output:
sendir,1:1,1,40000,1,1,96,24,24,24,48,24,48,24,48,24,24,24,24,24,24,24,24,24,48,24,24,24,48,24,48,24,48,24,48,24,48,24,48,24,24,24,48,24,48,24,24,473
