Overview

KVM support allows a USB Human Interface Device (HID)—such as a keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen—connected to a Decoder to send control input back to a device connected to an Encoder.

When combined with native video switching, Just Add Power systems function as both an Audio/Video matrix and a KVM switching solution at the same time.

In some system architectures, the USB connection between the Decoder and Encoder does not activate automatically. Refer to the appropriate article below for instructions on enabling USB control for your system type:

Point-to-Point Setup

In a point-to-point system, the USB connection between the Decoder and Encoder activates automatically as the devices power on.

This provides immediate and intuitive KVM control—simply connect the USB devices and begin using them.

Matrixed Setup

In a matrixed system with multiple Encoders, each KVM Decoder can control only one Encoder at a time.

A single KVM Encoder supports up to seven simultaneous USB peripheral endpoints, which may be distributed across multiple KVM Decoders.

When a Decoder switches to a different source, KVM control automatically follows the active video source.

If a Decoder is viewing a source with no USB connection, any connected USB peripherals will be inactive.
