Understand MaxColor Series Firmware Compatibility
Choose Firmware for Your Task
Use this reference to check video compatibility, hardware support, and control-driver requirements before downloading or applying MaxColor Series firmware.
| Your Task | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Update an existing system | Identify the installed firmware family. Changing between v3 and v4 requires planning for all devices that must exchange video. |
| Add or replace a device | Match the destination system's firmware family and verify that the selected release supports the exact device model. |
| Check a control driver | Check Legacy API support and model-specific features separately from video compatibility. A supported driver does not make different product series video-compatible. |
For the current package, use Download MaxColor Series Firmware. For previous release notes and downloads, use MaxColor Series Firmware Release History.
Check Video Compatibility
Match the firmware family: MAX v4.x.x and MAX v3.x.x are not video-compatible. Do not update one device to another major version while the devices it must exchange video with remain on the previous family.
MaxColor Series devices do not exchange video with Omega Series, Ultra Series, or 2G Series devices. Updating firmware does not add that interoperability.
MAX v3.7.4 is compatible with the MAX v3.x.x family. Review each release's hardware and feature requirements when adding a device.
Check Hardware Support
Select firmware intended for the exact hardware model. A firmware-family match alone does not establish that an older package supports a newer device.
Historical MAX v3.7.4 Hardware
The MAX v3.7.4 release lists these supported models:
- MC-RX1
- MC-RX2
- MC-TX1
- MC-TX2
Use this list for that historical release. Review the release record before maintaining a v3 installation; do not use this list as a model-support table for every MaxColor firmware package.
Check Control Compatibility
MAX v4.x.x supports existing control system drivers that use Legacy API command syntax. Feature support still depends on the device and release.
MAX v4.5.0 includes _4in1_layout.sh and _4in1_primary_audio.sh translation scripts for basic legacy Ultra Series Tiler driver control on QX devices. These scripts translate control commands; they do not make MaxColor Series and Ultra Series video streams compatible.
Understand the Version Format
MaxColor firmware uses the format MAX vX.Y.Z. For example, MAX v4.5.1 is a release within the v4 family.
| Component | Meaning |
|---|---|
MAX |
MaxColor Series firmware. |
| First number | Major firmware family. The v3 and v4 families are not video-compatible. |
| Remaining numbers | Identify the specific release within that family. Review its notes for changes and hardware requirements. |
Select, Update, and Verify
Download the package for the intended release and use the file intended for the exact device model. Follow How to Update Firmware on a Device for the webUI or AMP procedure.
After updating, confirm the installed version using How to Identify the Firmware Version of a Device and test the installation's video, audio, switching, USB, and control features.
TP-Link Switching Fix
MAX v4.5.1 includes the JPSW correction for matrix switching control with certain newer TP-Link switch firmware versions. This release is included with AMP 2.0.2. See the resolved issue and update guidance.
