TP-Link Switch Firmware Prevents Matrix Switching and AMP Service

Overview

Certain newer TP-Link switch firmware versions prevent matrix switching and AMP service functions from working correctly in a Standardized Configuration system.

This article lists the maximum supported switch firmware versions and explains how to return the switch to compatible firmware.

Expected fixed version: AMP 2.1.0

Check the Switch

  1. Identify whether the problem affects devices connected to one switch or multiple switches.
  2. Record the complete model name and hardware version for each affected switch.
  3. Log in to each switch webUI and record its running firmware version.
  4. Compare the model, hardware version, and firmware with the table below.

Match the complete model name and hardware version. TP-Link models with and without the TL- prefix are different hardware models. This table applies only to the listed models and hardware versions.

Maximum Supported Firmware

Maximum switch firmware versions: Do not install firmware newer than the version listed for the exact switch model and hardware version below. Firmware must also meet the minimum firmware requirements for TP-Link switches.

Workaround

If the running firmware exceeds the listed maximum, return the switch to supported firmware.

Changing switch firmware interrupts service when the switch reboots. Perform the work on-site during a maintenance window, retain a backup of the switch configuration, and review the firmware release notes for downgrade restrictions. Do not disconnect power or Ethernet during the firmware upload.

Rolling back the switch to supported firmware resolves this issue without re-uploading the switch configuration file. The existing configuration can remain in place.

  1. Download firmware matching the exact switch model and hardware version from the TP-Link Download Center. Select a version that meets the minimum requirement and does not exceed the maximum listed above.
  2. Extract the firmware file from the downloaded archive.
  3. Log in to the switch webUI.
  4. Follow the standalone procedure in TP-Link's firmware upgrade and downgrade guide to upload the firmware and boot the switch using that image.
  5. After the switch reboots, log in again and confirm that the running firmware is the selected supported version.

Verification

Confirm that switching through the control system and the affected AMP service function both work. In a multi-switch system, test the paths through each affected switch.

If the switch is already running compatible firmware, or the problem remains after the firmware change, contact Just Add Power Technical Support. Include the switch model, hardware version, firmware version, AMP version, and the function that fails.
