Overview
The firmware update method depends on how the system is configured:
- AMP 2G Legacy Mode: Use AMP 2.0.0 or later to apply L Series firmware through its configuration workflow.
- Established A Series systems: Use the A Series maintenance instructions below when the system is remaining on A Series firmware.
Confirm the system’s configuration method and intended firmware before updating an Encoder or Decoder. A replacement device must use firmware compatible with the system it is joining.
Update to L Series Firmware with AMP
L Series firmware provides the JPSW switching and configuration support used by AMP 2G Legacy Mode. It supports 2G Series devices and compatible Omega Series and Ultra Series devices.
Configuration requirement: AMP 2G Legacy Mode requires AMP 2.0.0 or later and is supported only in Standardized Configuration. It is not available in Alternate Configuration.
- Review 2G Legacy Mode compatibility to confirm the supported hardware and operating limitations.
- Download AMP and review the configuration instructions.
- Follow the AMP workflow appropriate to the system and task. AMP applies L Series firmware as part of configuration.
- Complete the configuration workflow before testing the system.
For release-specific information, see 2G Legacy Mode L Series firmware.
Transitioning an established system: Moving from A Series firmware to AMP 2G Legacy Mode is a system configuration change. Plan the transition for the complete system rather than updating one device independently.
2G Legacy Mode is established by configuring the system with L Series firmware; it is not a separate setting to enable or disable. Moving compatible Omega Series and Ultra Series devices to B Series operation requires removing all 2G Series hardware from that system and configuring the remaining supported devices with B Series firmware.
Devices with Older A Series Firmware
The incremental procedures below document preparation for historical A Series updates. They do not establish the minimum firmware required for a direct update to L Series. If a device is running an early A Series release or AMP cannot identify or update it, contact Just Add Power Support to confirm the required preparation.
Maintain an Established A Series System
Use this section only when retaining A Series firmware. JADConfig is limited to established systems and reaches End of Support on January 1, 2027. See the JADConfig End of Support notice.
Check the device’s firmware under System > Version Information in its webUI. Additional methods are available in Identify the Firmware Version of a Device.
For manual updates, match the firmware file to the hardware using the firmware version and hardware filename reference. Historical A Series filename mappings must not be used to select L Series files.
Before connecting an Encoder to a local data network or directly to a PC, disconnect its HDMI input. An Encoder streaming video onto the local data network can disrupt network traffic.
Keep power and network connections intact throughout firmware updates. Interrupted updates may require DeBrick recovery.
Update A Series Firmware Through the webUI
Firmware below A1.35 requires the incremental updates below.
- Download the model’s A Series firmware.
- Disconnect Encoder HDMI.
- Open the device’s webUI.
- Under System > Update Firmware, upload the matching
.binfile. - Allow approximately 8 minutes.
Update A Series Firmware Through JADConfig
JADConfig cannot detect firmware older than A5.21D; use the webUI instead.
- Establish PC access using the linked webUI guide’s Connected to Local Data Network or PC instructions. Disconnect Encoder HDMI.
- Open JADConfig; select Firmware Update Only → Standalone.
- Select the Ethernet adapter, then Next.
- Select the discovered device, then Next.
- Select firmware; leave Force Firmware Update unchecked.
- Select Next; allow approximately 8 minutes.
- If prompted about operating mode, select Do Not Change.
Historical A Series Incremental Updates
Firmware A1.2 through A1.34
- Download A1.35.
- Upload the matching file through the webUI:
- Encoder:
JAP-2G-TX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin - Decoder:
JAP-2G-RX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin
- Encoder:
- After completion, disconnect power, wait 5 seconds, then reconnect.
- Confirm A1.35 before continuing A Series updates.
Firmware Below A1.2
No displayed version indicates firmware below A1.2.
- Request STEP1 firmware from Support.
- Upload
JAP-2G-TX-STEP1.binfor Encoders orJAP-2G-RX-STEP1.binfor Decoders. - After completion, disconnect power, wait 5 seconds, then reconnect.
- Reopen the webUI; refresh cached information if necessary.
- Complete the A1.35 procedure above.
Verify Operation
- Confirm that each updated device reports the intended firmware version.
- For an AMP system, confirm that the configuration workflow completed successfully.
- Reconnect any HDMI cables removed for the update.
- Test source switching, video, and audio at the affected displays.
