JADConfig - Physical Connections needed in order to Configure Switch and Devices
Two physical connections are needed for Configure Switch and Devices to run properly:
- Serial connection from the JADConfig PC to the Console port on the switch
- Wired network connection from the JADConfig PC to port 1 of the switch
The wired network connection from the JADConfig PC to port 1 of the switch can be done in one of two ways:
- JADConfig PC connected to a Local Area Network and the Local Area Network connected to port 1 of the switch. This is preferred when the switch is being setup on the job site because both the switch and the JADConfig PC will acquire network details from the router on-site.
- JADConfig PC connected directly to port 1 of the switch. This is preferred when the switch is being configured off-site, or if the job site has network security settings that would prevent device discovery protocols from functioning. This option requires that the wired network adapter of the JADConfig PC be manually configured to match the IP details that will be needed for the switch when it is on-site.
Once the serial and network connections have been established correctly, JADConfig can proceed appropriately.
If you are having issues discovering Just Add Power devices, please see the article on device discovery troubleshooting. Along with other suggestions, one of the later steps involves removing the network from the equation and connecting the JADConfig PC directly to port 1.
