Understand Omega and Ultra Series Firmware Compatibility

Choose Firmware for Your Task

Check firmware compatibility before updating a system or adding a device. Start with the task below, then use the version and hardware references as needed.

Your Task What to Check
Update an existing system Identify the major version already installed, review the release notes, and plan updates for every device that must exchange video if changing major versions.
Add or replace a device Match the established system's video compatibility family and select the file intended for the exact hardware model.
Work with 2G Series devices Check 2G Legacy Mode compatibility. Normal B Series operation does not provide interoperability with 2G Series devices.

For the current package, see Download Omega Series and Ultra Series Firmware. For previous releases, see Omega Series and Ultra Series Firmware Release History.

Check Video Compatibility

Match the major version: Encoders and Decoders that must exchange video need the same B Series major version. B3.x.x, B2.x.x, and B1.x.x are not video-compatible with one another.

Minor and patch releases within the same major version do not change the video compatibility family. They can change features, controls, or device behavior, so review the release notes when combining versions or troubleshooting.

When adding or replacing a device, check the established system before installing firmware. Changing the system to a different major version requires planning for all devices that must operate together.

Systems with 2G Series Devices

B Series firmware provides normal Omega Series and Ultra Series operation and does not support interoperability with 2G Series devices.

L Series firmware is intended for AMP 2G Legacy Mode on 2G Series devices and compatible Omega Series and Ultra Series models. This workflow requires AMP 2.0.0 or later and Standardized Configuration.

Check Understand 2G Legacy Mode Compatibility for supported hardware and operating limitations. Use 2G Legacy Mode Firmware for the applicable L Series release. Earlier A Series firmware history remains in List of Firmware Versions for 2G Legacy Mode Systems.

Control and Configuration Compatibility

  • B3.x.x and B2.x.x support existing control system drivers that use Legacy API commands. Video compatibility between major versions remains a separate requirement.
  • B2.1.0 was the last Omega Series and Ultra Series firmware supported by JADConfig. Use Advanced Matrix Programmer (AMP) for current configuration workflows.
  • JADConfig reaches End of Support on January 1, 2027. See the End of Support notice before planning work on an established JADConfig system.

Select a File for a Manual Update

A firmware package contains files for different hardware models. Match the device model to the filename identifier in the following tables before uploading a file.

Table scope: These filename identifiers apply to B Series firmware B2.0.0 and later. Do not use these tables to select A Series, L Series, or B1 files. The 2G-3G text in a B Series filename identifies the hardware file; it does not mean that B Series firmware supports 2G Series devices.

Omega Series Hardware

Hardware Model Filename
OM-505POE
OM-515POE
2G-3G_RX
OM-705POE
OM-715POE
OM-716VGA
OM-725POE
OM-726TVI

Ultra Series Hardware

Hardware Model Filename
UL-508POE
UL-509POE
UL-518AVP
3G_RX
UL-707POE
UL-707WP2
UL-708POE
UL-709P2P
UL-717HIFI
UL-717WP2
UL-718AVP
UL-718KVM

UL-737POE 3G_WARP_TX for the Encoder
3G_WARP_RX for the Decoder
UL-747POE

UL-759A 3G_TX for the Encoder
3G_RX for the Decoder
UL-767AES
UL-767DSS
3G+DSS_TX
ST1 2G-3G_SX

For the Warp Engine and UL-759A, use the file listed for the Encoder or Decoder side being updated. The ST1 uses the 2G-3G_SX file identifier.

Understand Firmware Version Numbers

B Series versions use the format BX.Y.Z. For example, B3.2.0 identifies the firmware family, major version, minor version, and patch release.

Component Meaning Example: B3.2.0
B B Series firmware for normal Omega Series and Ultra Series operation. B Series
First number Major version and video compatibility family. 3 identifies B3.x.x.
Second number Minor release identifying feature, endpoint-control, or functional changes within the major version. 2 identifies the minor release.
Third number Patch release identifying corrections within the minor release. 0 identifies the patch release.

Update and Verify

Follow How to Update Firmware on a Device for the individual-device procedure. For the AMP Standardized Configuration workflow, see Update Firmware with AMP.

After updating, verify the reported firmware version and test the features used by the installation.
